Chess 960

Chess 960 is varient of chess where the initial backline pieces are randomised subject to:

  • The King sits on his colour
  • The Bishops are on opposite colours
  • There is a Rook either side of the King (for castling)

Take a look at the chess board to see possible variations.

Castling

When castling either kingside or queenside, the King and Rooks always end on the same place they would have done if playing classical chess. This means the king can jump more than two squares!
